Deacon John Burkly

John was ordained a Permanent Deacon by Cardinal Sean O'Malley in September 2013 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. He was then assigned to Corpus Christi-St. Bernard Parish for his initial assignment.

John and his family have been parishioners of Corpus Christi-St. Bernard Parish for more than 25 years. He is married to Linda, a research scientist. Their 3 children, Dan, Tom and Meg, were longtime Altar Servers. John and Linda have 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. John has served the parish in a variety of areas, such as a member of the Parish Pastoral and Finance Councils, Pastoral Planning Team, Confirmation Preparation Team, and Parish Choir, Currently John is a catechist in our religious education program.

John practiced law in Boston for nearly 30 years until his retirement in 2008. He went on to earn a Masters Degree in Pastoral Ministry and completed a 3 year chaplaincy training program.

As a Permanent Deacon, John will be assisting at weekend and daily Masses - periodically offering homilies. He'll be involved in visits to area nursing homes, wake services and cemetery committals, home visits, and numerous works of charity in and beyond the parish.
