CCSB COMMISSIONS
What is a commission and what is its purpose?
A Commission:
• is a standing committee of the parish established by the Pastor following consultation with the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC).
• possesses an auxiliary relationship to the purpose and intentions of the PPC.
• works in its respective area of responsibility to achieve the mission and goals of the parish.
• proposes plans and recommendations, along with policies and initiatives, for consideration and implementation by the Pastor and the PPC.
• is authorized to undertake actions within the limits of its approved budget and program based on the mission and spirit of the parish.
• reports periodically to the PPC so that its efforts can be reviewed, supported, developed, and integrated into the life and ministry of the parish.
How is a commission structured and how does it function?
A Commission:
• seeks out the gifts of all parishioners and, therefore, is composed of members recruited from the parish-at-large, reflecting the culture, age, and gender diversity within the parish.
• consists of eight (8) to fifteen (15) parishioners including, when possible, a member of the parish staff and/or PPC.
• meets regularly so as to address its areas of responsibility.
• offers time for prayer and spiritual reflection for the enrichment of its members.
• will determine its own chairperson and recording secretary from amongst its own membership. Whenever necessary, the Pastor will appoint interim leadership for a commission until such time that a commission is able to do so for itself.
• provides opportunities for exchange and collaboration with other parish commissions and committees.
