Sacramental Information

  • Baptism

BAPTISM (CCC 1213) Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water and in the word.

We celebrate Baptisms at 11:30 am on the third Sunday of the month (except during the season of Lent). Baptisms can at times also be celebrated during Mass. If you have a child that you would like to have Baptized, please call the parish at 617-244-0608 or email Sr. Suzanne at srsuzanne@ccsbparish.org. If you are an adult who would like to be Baptized, you are invited to participate in our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program to become Catholic.

For more information about how to begin Baptism Preparation, please visit the Baptism Preparation page.

  • Confirmation

CONFIRMATION (CCC 1285) Baptism, the Eucharist, and the Sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. The reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the Sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.

Baptized children traditionally prepare for the reception of Confirmation in the 10th grade and can do this through the standard religious education program. Anyone who has passed the 10th grade can contact the parish to make the appropriate arrangements.

  • First Communion

EUCHARIST (CCC 1322) The Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord’s own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist.

Baptized children traditionally prepare for the reception of First Communion in 2nd Grade and can do this through the standard religious education program. Parents of a child older than 2nd Grade or adults who would like First Communion can contact the parish to make arrangements.

  • Reconciliation

RECONCILIATION (CCC 1422) Those who approach the Sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on Saturday afternoons from 3:00 - 3:30 pm or by appointment. If you need preparation for First Reconciliation please contact the parish to make the appropriate arrangements.

  • Holy Orders

HOLY ORDERS (CCC 1536) Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate.

If you are a man who is interested in becoming a priest or a deacon, please contact Fr. Dan through the parish office.

  • Holy Matrimony

MARRIAGE (CCC 1603) The intimate community of life and love which constitutes the married state has been established by the Creator and endowed by him with its own proper laws.... God himself is the author of marriage. The vocation to marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they came from the hand of the Creator. Marriage is not a purely human institution despite the many variations it may have undergone through the centuries in different cultures, social structures, and spiritual attitudes. These differences should not cause us to forget its common and permanent characteristics. Although the dignity of this institution is not transparent everywhere with the same clarity, some sense of the greatness of the matrimonial union exists in all cultures. The well-being of the individual person and of both human and Christian society is closely bound up with the healthy state of conjugal and family life.
