Week 3: Family Room

Making the Sign of the Cross the Leader says:

Leader: Our help is in the name of the Lord

All: Who made Heaven and Earth.

Leader: Following Christ’s parable of guests and hosts, we come to You, Father, asking Your blessing on our family room.

              Here a time of silence may be observed.

              A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew:

At that time Jesus said in reply, “I give praise to You, Father, Lord of Heaven and Earth, for although You have hidden these things from the wise and the learned, You have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been Your gracious will. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal Him. “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give You rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy, and My burden light.”

Thus are the words of the Holy Gospel.

With hands together, the Leader says:

Let us pray,

Lord Jesus Christ You tell us that all who come to You will find rest. May You visit this house and may Your Spirit dwell with us in this our family room. When we gather here to enjoy entertainment, relax, or converse with others, may we be reminded that all can find rest in You.

May these walls be for us a reminder of the safety and security that comes from You. May these windows be for us a reminder that You see into our souls and understand our every need. And, may all who find rest here be reminded that You always are standing at the door of their hearts waiting to be welcomed in to strengthen and help them with the abundance of Your love!

As we are reminded of the importance of earthly rest, let us also remember those who have gone forth from this world and have found rest with God.

Leader: Eternal Rest grant unto them O, Lord.

All: And let perpetual light shine upon them.

Leader: May they rest in peace.

All: Amen.

Leader: And may the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

All: Amen.

The Leader, or another present, taking Holy Water sprinkles the living room area.

Optional: A cross or icon is kissed by each person, and put in a place of honor. A lighted candle may be placed before it.

Gospel Passage: Matthew 11:25-30

PEACE PRAYER

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is error, the truth;

Where there is doubt, the faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,

Grant that I may not so much seek

To be consoled, as to console;

To be understood, as to understand;

To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
